HAZWOPER includes the five types of hazardous waste operations like clean-up operations, corrective actions involving clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, operations involving hazardous waste, and emergency response operations. These are covered in OSHA Standard 1910.120 “Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response” that is concerned with the safety standards that employers must ensure to undertake these operations at hazardous sites. OSHA delineates different levels of HAZWOPER Training based on the kind of work and the possible hazard involved.

If you are a worker involved in clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal and management of hazardous materials and uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, take the 40-hour HAZWOPER Training. It will help you in eliminating hazardous materials, and ensuring safety of other workers and environment, decontamination, medical surveillance, site characterization and control etc. Apart from this you will be acquainted with the use of personal protective equipment, excavation, fire protection, introduction to blood borne pathogens, chemical awareness etc. However, be sure to complete a 3 days hands-on-training program conducted by the employer to comply with the OSHA regulations.

Those visiting an Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Operation site are required to undertake the 24-hour HAZWOPER Training course. Before entering the site, take 1 day long supervised field training to fulfill the OSHA requirements. It helps in understanding the purpose of OSHA and its function of enforcing occupational safety, use of site characterization to be aware of and deal with problems that might crop up in the workplace, recognizing the presence of and elimination of hazardous materials in the workplace, ensure the use of Material Safety Data sheets, identifying substances that can give rise to explosive, flammable, or radiological hazards, understanding the importance the personal protective equipment(PPE), forming a proper site control program, and enforcing effective procedures of treatment in cases of exposure.

The 8-hour HAZWOPER Training course complies with the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 regulations for 8 hours of annual HAZWOPER refresher training for employees working in hazardous waste sites. It enables workers to read and understand OSHA regulations, use site characterization to identify and reduce hazards, understand principles of toxicology, develop a medical surveillance program, understand the uses of PPE, principles of decontamination, understand potentially hazardous situations and various considerations in an emergency.

Managers or supervisors involved in supervising workers dealing with hazardous waste should undergo the HAZWOPER Supervisor Training. This comprises of at least 8 hours of specialized training on topics like employers safety and health program and the corresponding employee health program, spill containment program, PPE program, health hazard monitoring processes and techniques etc.

Employees responding to a hazardous materials emergency, depending on their level of activity, and seriousness of the incident should undergo the First Responder Training- Awareness Level. This enables workers to witness or identify the release of hazardous materials and intimate the appropriate authorities. It attempts to identify the role of a Level 1 responder, recognize hazards involved in an emergency, ensure site control and security, be aware of the nature and harmful effects of hazardous materials etc.

If you are confronted with the task of abating the release of hazardous chemicals, go for the First Responder Training- Operations Level. Proper management of these chemicals prevents them from posing a serious threat to human life and the environment.

Hazardous Waste Operator Training is formulated for workers working in hazardous waste sites and need to be certified according to the HAZWOPER regulations or for those who occasionally work for specific tasks and are not likely to be exposed over the permissible exposure limits.Transportation of hazmat shipments by air, surface or ocean is an uphill task. Employees or personnel responsible for their safe handling can benefit immensely from HAZMAT Training.

HAZMAT Operations level responders defend and respond to an emergency, assess the situation, notify the people involved, and request for help when needed.

HAZMAT Awareness course is an 8 hour course designed for workers who are likely to be exposed to hazardous materials and enables those present on the scene to detect the release of materials, identify the hazard involved and initiate protective actions.

Dealing with hazardous materials can lead to a disaster of unimaginable magnitude, and HAZWOPER Training is indispensable for ensuring the safety of both man and environment.
